(Sub)urban hike this Saturday, May 25

21 05 2013

Join us this Saturday, May 25 at 11:00 a.m. as Urban Hike heads south to Bridgeville. Since the hike takes place during the long Memorial Day weekend, we’re keeping things pretty low key. We’ll start at a cosy neighborhood coffee spot, LaBella Bean Coffee, then cover about three miles walking up and down some hills in Bridgeville. (Another Pittsburgh neighborhood with a hilly terrain‽ Impossible!) We may even cross a bridge or two!

Bridgeville Historical Society photo There’ll be a couple of other interesting stops along the way, including a visit to the lively local historical society.

We’ll be there, rain or shine. Hope you are too! : )

Going over Garfield

6 05 2013

Thanks for coming out (in droves!) for our Garfield hike last weekend. Here’s the route we took and a little follow-up information about some of the points on the hike.

  • We stopped at the Sprout Fund, and listened to an impassioned Garfield-Bloomfield Corporation speaker, but there were so many other groups that we just couldn’t get to in our limited time. Check out this document to get a sense of how many other community organizations and non-profits populate Penn Ave.
  • Want to learn more about the water tower park proposal? Check out this link from cityLAB.
  • And finally, a slideshow of pictures. (Or it didn’t happen, right?) : )

We’ll look forward to seeing you at our next hike! Stay tuned for more details soon.
