Go West for an Urban Hike in Sheraden

23 07 2012

“Together. We will go our way.
Together. We will leave someday.”

Well, that day is coming soon! On Saturday, July 28 at 10:00 a.m., Urban Hike will head west to the Pittsburgh neighborhood of Sheraden.

“Go West. Life is peaceful there.
Go West. In the open air.”

Well, we’ll still be in the city, but we’ll walk through Sheraden Park, a hidden gem with trails, a pool, and much more. We’ll also wind our way up a hillside to take in a great view of the Ohio River and downtown. Along with the peaceful scenes we will talk to the neighborhood’s City Council representative, Theresa Kail-Smith, who is working hard to bring exciting projects to Sheraden, as well as other residents who can tell us about the unique features of the neighborhood.

We will start the hike at the Sheraden branch of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh (720 Sherwood Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA, 15204). Bring all the usual hike stuff — sunscreen, good walking shoes, and a water bottle, and be prepared to cover about 4.5 miles, including city steps and steep hillsides. There will be a restaurant option at the end, so bring your appetite too.

“Go West. This is our destiny.”
